Post-Christmas clear-up - who’s with me?

I had a lazy Boxing Day obvs but also a pretty lazy day yesterday. So today is The Day.

I have already:

  • Got DS's food ready (he's at work today)
  • Sorted out my two Advent Calendars – anything I have started goes into the "using now" section, the rest in my stash (one AC was home-made from the stash so I am glad to see quite a few items have gone into "using now"
  • Sorted the laundry that was drying from yesterday
  • Planned a task for tomorrow evening
  • Been for a swim
I need to
  • Do the ironing (was done on Chr eve but there is a build-up!)
  • Take DS to work
  • Tidy out the fridge (that's a big one)
  • Make bubble and squeak with leftovers or bin them (we have been idly living off them for a day or so)
  • Clean downstairs (not been touched since Chr Eve apart from a desultory hoover)
  • Clear away kids ACs
  • Tidy away gifts (mine anyway)
I think that's most of it. Anyone with me?

I got my days mixed up.. thought yesterday was Sunday all morning.
Today I've done some washing .
Vacuumed... ( got steam mop out.. just working up some more energy). I've changed my plants / ornaments around ( tree/ decorations down and put away)... there is a reason why I've done it early.
Think l am going to have a big clear out of cupboards etc this week.
Got two spare bedrooms to empty ready for decorator and new carpets .. one l use for a sewing room.. other for Grandson when he stays over . Had my bedroom decorated and new carpet before Christmas...
Im having major Surgery .. one operation March another September. . I might have to miss my holidays next year. .. so giving house a new makeover instead.

Excellent work @ILoveYouJefferyS

I have ticked off my list:

  • Take DS to work
  • Clear away kids ACs
  • Tidy away gifts (mine anyway)
Hmm that’s not much really. But I have also nipped into town to exchange a gift that wasn't quite right, so I am happy there. Also (ahem) wandered into M&S foodhall and bagged reduced sandwich for my lunch tomorrow (am at work so deserve something fancy).

Now to tackle the fridge... just lemme finish my tea :D

Ive had a slow and steady but surprisingly productive blitz yesterday and today so have got most things packed away just wading through the laundry now and waiting for DH to Dismantle the trees because I really CBA with that 😅😅

clary · 28/12/2025 19:07

Well done @Elle771
I have done everything on my list (with the addition of clearing the bread bin, really needed doing) and have made dinner from the things in the fridge and made breadcrumbs from the stale bread.

Just the ironing to do in front of some crap TV.

Had a busy few days , so lots needed doing today, had family staying and they've gone home, so tree and all decorations taken down, and clean throughout, guest room bedding stripped and washed and remade, inventory of fridge and freezer food, washing all up to date, and a proper meal , that is not picky bits cooked. Had a proper declutter and got rid of loads of rubbish. Tomorrow's jobs include deep clean of the bathroom, and a couple of kitchen cupboards need reorganising.DH has taken all the external Christmas decorations and lights down, everywhere looks so bare now , but glad to be back to normal.

Our first guest left today (after 10 days) so I've been changing and washing sheets and towels and moving DC back into his bedroom.

Took advantage of it to quickly declutter DS2s bedroom (he agreed to part with a surprising amount of clutter) and get DS1 to tidy his wardobe.

2 others guests arrive on Tuesday so won't take decorations down until Wednesday or Thursday.

All presents have been tidied away, now I need to resist the temptation to keep buying more food and instead work our way through the freezer.

Spent the last few days with DH tackling various jobs in the garden and house. We have a huge list (we have only recently bought the house) of things to do and are gradually getting through it, although more things keep getting added to it!

I don't iron unless going on holiday. What are you ironing?

Christmas has gone from the house as going on holiday. 😊

Scoffing food to get rid, finishing wine off.

Cleaners coming when away so they can do spring clean.

Laundry done mostly.

Cleaned oven.

New year's resso is de clutter house, so much unseen junk in cupboards, drawers, under coffee table etc.

clary · 28/12/2025 21:19

@Iamblossom I iron lots of things. Anything that looks creased if not ironed tbh.

Interesting that you only iron if going away – surely once you pack you may as well not have ironed? I actually don’t iron on holiday tho I am not happy about it.
