Life without colour catcher

MrsSprat · 11/06/2008 14:39

okay, I find myself in a country where 'colour catcher' does not exist . How do I now wash new black & white prints, two-tone stuff etc and not get 'the runs'?

Vanish??

I am sure colour catcher sheets are available...

nickytwotimes · 11/06/2008 14:41

Oh, it does!
Our Semi-Chem sells it and it is advertised on tv. We live in the arse end of nowhere.

MrsSprat · 11/06/2008 14:46

Nope, I am not in UK. I forgot to pack my trusty box [idiot emoticon]

Ah, now I understand!
You're stuffed.

brimfull · 11/06/2008 14:48

I have never used it and my stuff has never run.

Nagapie · 11/06/2008 14:49

Thought that after I posted....

Can your visitors not bring some over? Do you have someone who can post some over to you??

MrsSprat · 11/06/2008 14:49

B-b-but my stuff does run. Arrrgh, wail, wail. Have constructed my wardrobe on the basis that CC does exist

I want to be that carefree Germanic-looking lady who gaily mixes reds, yellows and blues without a care in the world.

Get someone to send you some, or google an equivelant? We ran out earlier this week and I refused to do the washing for 3 days Everything comes out grey without it.

brimfull · 11/06/2008 14:57

why does my stuff not run

honestly it is fine

I wash at 30 or 40 ,is that the difference?

MrsBadger · 11/06/2008 15:02

I have never used 'colour catcher' - is it this?

I sort into whites / lights/darks - my whites are white and nothing goes grey.

prints will not run - wash them with things the colour of the actual fabric

wash two-tone things cold with an amiable compromise of colours (eg a white top with black sleeves would go in a 'lights' wash)

release yourself from the tyranny of unneccesary laundry products!

MrsSprat · 11/06/2008 15:05

Must be the cheap shite good value tops I buy from Primark. I also wash at 30/40. Suppose I will have to get some posted (and laundry strike until it arrives). Just wondered if there was a crafty alternative tip or other internationally available miracle product.

Yes you see black and white is the problem. After the wash it becomes black and sludge grey - not the crisp look one is looking for. Would be petrified of including such an item in the whites wash - the consequences could be catastrophic.

you can get colour catchers here, from Lakeland. I just had a look and they dont have them on their site, but defo get them from their shop in Brent Cross. www.lakeland.co.uk/

We stock up on them everytime we go to the shop.

They ROCK!! It's the best thing ever.
