Pip Strainer for Damson Jam Making

Jammakershusband · 15/12/2025 12:33

My wife makes Damson jam and skims the pips from the surface during boiling.
She said she loses a lot of jam with the extracted pips and wants a strainer that clips on to the side of the pan and allows the jam to drop back into the pan while retaining the pips.
I want to get her one, if such a thing exists - I cannot find one online but do not really know what to search for.
Advice please or she will not have a cracker present for Christmas. Thanks

I've only used the Lakeland jelly and jam strainer which is on a stand that sits over the pan and I've not seen one that clips on to the pan but I wonder if this from ikea would work?:

I use a cherry stoner, to remove the stones before I make the jam

This! It works so well. I make a lot of damson jam and using the cherry stoner is the best way. Sieving gives a different texture. Cherry stoner is much less labour intensive.

What a thoughtful gift!

Very thoughtful!

As a PP said, I also use a cherry/olive stoner to destone the damsons before making the jam. The problem with a strainer is that it will take out all the skins and a lot of the fruit pulp as well, so she will lose even more jam than via her current method.

I have this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/11316300/dp/B09NLWBHCG/ref=asc_df_B09NLWBHCG?mcid=86d65f1d155c31789ed36c49835460ea&tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=697248632139&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7550660427071884038&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006510&hvtargid=pla-1642636970289&hvocijid=7550660427071884038-B09NLWBHCG-&hvexpln=0&gad_source=1&th=1
