Old knife disposal

I’ve treated myself to a new kitchen knife set and I am wondering how to dispose of the old ones?

I used to be a teacher, so I’m very aware of knife crime.

Is there a rule/law/specialist system for safely disposing of the old ones?

Our local council tells you to take them to the Recycling centre (aka tip, dump etc) whete they can go in scrap metal.

Thank you. For some reason I thought that knives were exempt from the tip. I’ll definitely check my LA website.
