Cleaner filming my house

Hi, what would you do in this situation. I have been using a cleaner for a few months now. She doesn’t speak great English but through broken exchanges told me she is setting up a cake business. She showed me her instagram and I told her I’d follow her. Anyway, tonight I’ve seen that she posted a video recording the bags of clothes I’m sorting in my babies room!?! It’s in a different language so I don’t know what she’s saying but she pans across to the bags and then to a basket of laundry on top of the drawers. you can also hear my baby crying in the background. I’m disappointed as she asked to connect to WiFi today so she could be in contact with her daughter but now I’ve seen she’s doing this. I feel it’s a breach of privacy, respect and trust. My question is how would you address this?
im gutted because I live remotely and it’s taken a while to find a cleaner who does a decent job. Back to the drawing board I think!
let me know your thoughts please before I address this with her.
thanks!

Copy the text into google translate

Guildford321 · 27/11/2025 20:06

I'd get rid of her with immediate effect. I'd just simply text and say due to a change in circumstances, you'll no longer need her services.

mommyandmore · 27/11/2025 20:06

It’s her speaking in the video. DH is on the case

What a cow!

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 27/11/2025 20:15

Oh blimey - that sounds really dodgy, she hasn't got a key, has she? You need to get the locks changed pronto. Don't rely on her giving a key back, she could have had copies cut.

I hope you don't leave paperwork with your bank details on lying around.

Yep! Why would you do that? 🙈

It’s really strange isn’t it! I’ve seen previous posts she’s done in people’s homes and I’ve questioned it but obviously not really by business until now!
as far as I know she doesn’t have a key but I will be checking - thank you 😊

No, I disagree. I think she should be told the truth, which is that due to her filming your house and breaching your privacy you do not wish her to continue cleaning.

I agree with this.

SloppySocks · 27/11/2025 20:34

There can be no acceptable reason for her doing this. What an invasion of privacy. So sorry you’ve experienced this.

RollOnSunshine · 27/11/2025 20:35

She needs to be asked about this directly and told she must stop immediately.

BeeCucumber · 27/11/2025 20:36

How awful. I would change the locks and the password/code for any alarms.

WittyJadeStork · 27/11/2025 20:37

Ask her to remove it from her instagram and then tell her you no longer need her services.
If she doesn’t remove it from her account contact instagram directly
Someone filmed my house and uploaded the video to their YouTube and someone else I knew recognised it and told me. I was livid and they weren’t too keen to take it down

TeeBee · 27/11/2025 20:39

I’d get rid of her immediately and tell her why. I couldn’t have someone in my house who didn’t have an ounce of respect for my privacy.

mommyandmore · 27/11/2025 20:55

It’s also the fact that you can hear my baby crying too. I was in the house - so rude!

Google translate can translate audio if you know what language it is... However I'm sure it could figure it out!

Smeegall · 27/11/2025 20:56

Id use one device to play and another to listen using Google translate....

Do you know what language she speaks? Someone on Mumsnet might understand it?

^Totally this. Call her out and let her know that what she’s done is totally unacceptable.

londongirl12 · 27/11/2025 21:18

play it on your phone and use your husbands phone to use Google translate to see what it says.

mommyandmore · 27/11/2025 21:21

So it’s saying ‘look they use such beautiful clothes, full to the tip, look she’s giving the clothes to another baby, a bag of clothes and a knife’ DH suspects it should be basket instead of knife. I mean, WTF?

What’s wrong with that? She could have been honest and said this woman can’t clean her own house….

So it sounds like she’s being nice but still a massive invasion of privacy!

PInkyStarfish · 27/11/2025 21:50

I would work out what you want to say and then ask on here for someone who speaks her language to translate it for you to her language so that you can be sure she understands that what she has done is a gross breach of trust and has lost her her job.
