Possible to remove onion smell?

I did a silly thing. I stored some chopped onions in a glass container, the kind that have a clip on plastic lid.
I think they're called a gasket, the rubber seal around the edge now absolutely honks of onion. I've tried washing it several times to no avail. Before I bin it does anyone have any hack/tips?

Soak them in coffee, works every time for me.
I make fresh coffee so it's hot and soak then in it until the coffee goes cold, redo it if needed.

Thanks so much! It might work for the insta pot gasket too. 🙂👍

Definitely worth a try! I was desperate myself after using bicarbonate of soda, lemon juice and vinegar. Coffee worked a treat.

Btw I've used Milton steriliser on thermos gaskets to get rid of tea and coffee odors so that would have been my next choice if coffee hadn't worked on the onion.

I tried baking soda and it's currently languishing in lemon juice. :)

Oh I clicked on this thread thinking it might help me - I thought my washing machine smelled weirdly of onions this evening!
it was a really horrible smell but not sure filling the machine with coffee will sort it 😂
