Morning ..just that really. I love in an old terrace and I'm fed up of the damp issues...there's just so many out there. Something for a bathroom ideally please.

Secondhand recommendation, but I've just bought a Meaco Arete Two 12l on the strong recommendation of a friend. Mine only arrived yesterday so hasn't been used yet, but she and her dh did loads of research (he's a physicist and very careful and methodical, unlike me!) so I felt confident in their recommendation. I'm looking forward to setting it up tomorrow but not looking forward to cleaning the mould off the bedroom walls.

Very old stone cottage here, tons of damp in front wall despite repointing with lime over the summer. I feel your pain!

eBac - mid terraced stone cottage with black mould issues ….. superb machine . Worth every penny.

I have a black and decker 12l which has lasted since the beginning of lockdown, and cleared up a serious leak - we estimate about 24 gallons leaked into the house. When its time to replace it I'm looking at the Meaco Arete Two 12l as its supposed to be cheaper to run. The Meaco Arete One 12l is good but they seem to give up after a year, according to reviews.
When I run it in the bathroom I use an extension cable, we also have an extractor fan and we use that first.
They all hum which can be annoying, and we notice that we have to stand it over a joist rather than in the middle of the floorboards, otherwise we can hear it downstairs.

We have a very old second hand Delonghi - it's amazing for damp!

We have a small portable Clarke air from machine mart , it’s a great dehumidifier and highly recommended . We put it in each room as needed and it has an inside drying setting for damp washing .

This is great.
Our last house was an 1850's cottage and had lots of damp issues.
We use it at times in our current house too (1930's 3 bed terrace) and it really helps keep on top of the condensation.

We have a meaco which is brilliant and the customer care team is great too if you need repairs/ service during the warranty period. We also got a discount from them on a new unit after our old one finally packed in.

Some excellent suggestions all, thank you so much. I'll have a look through the black Friday discounts and get one bought.

I've just bought this one and I'm very impressed with it.

We have this one (actually 2 of them, 1 in the conservatory 1, 1 in the bathroom/hall), especially great for drying clothes, where we live it's been raining non stop for a week so it's either this or a tumble dryer - I don't like tumble dryer.

Meaco - John Lewis 2 year guarantee too

wakeboarder · 22/11/2025 21:33

Another vote for Meaco . We have a Meaco Arete 20l for 3 bed bungalow, makes huge difference and not expensive to run

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 22/11/2025 21:34

Is your house cold? If so you want a desiccant one, the condenser ones don’t work as well in very cold spaces.

Thelnebriati · 24/11/2025 21:30

I've just seen that Lidl have the Black & Decker 12L for £80 in their Black Friday deals. If you can afford the extra I'd probably go for the Meaco, otherwise thats a good price.
