Coir matting

I've just moved and my new house has coir matting laid in the entrance way. I have no idea how to clean it or keep it smelling fresh. Any tips?

Silly question, but is it stuck down? Or can you remove it?

If you can lift it I would take it outside onto the patio (on a dry day), turn it face down and stomp on it/beat it repeatedly. That generally gets most of the particles from deep in the weave/pile. I do that once a month.

Apart from that just hoover it regularly. Let mud or dirt dry fully before you try to clean it, and then it'll knock off easily.

As for smell? I don't have a clue - I've never encountered a smelly coir mat. But if you're worried could you put a reed diffuser in your hallway?

I think if it was smelly or really worn I'd just replace it. Get the ones without the rubber backing and they are fully compostable so I don't feel too guilty about replacing them when they start to get a bit grotty.

I think I can pull it up so will try that, thanks Deed!
