Duvet cover sizes

I have a very large duvet 290 cm wide. There’s a cover that I want to buy for it from America but it’s only 274 cm wide. Has anybody ever put a duvet in a smaller cover? How does it work? does it fit? I can’t send it back.

Of course it’s not going to fit… ! It will end up all bunched up down one side. Personally I couldn’t stand that but each to their own.
