How to make my house smell nice

I don’t think my house smells nice - old house, slightly musty, dog who is smelling more and lore more doggy as she ages, newborn and toddler (nappies!).

any ideas that are cheap, easy/quick, and not too chemically due to young children and dog.

thank you

I always wonder if our house smells. No pets but plenty of children and nappies. I don't think it does, but apparently you can't smell your own house.

I use white company candles every now and then. Particularly nice this time of year is the For tree one. They also do reed infusers.

Sorry if you have a dog there will be little to avoid the dog smell. People will come on and say they can’t smell their dog. NEWSFLASH - everyone else can.

  • Neom oils in your tea light burner. The orange one called ‘Happiness’ is glorious. They sell them in M&S.
  • Windows open daily
  • Wash dog bedding regularly
  • We invested in an upholstery cleaner which is good. Shark brand.
  • Empty kitchen bin regularly & wash

My house smells lovely today - a big candle from b&m was only £6 , so surprised how effective it is at that price.

Ooh that’s a good price. Which one did you get?

Make sure your house is aired regularly.

Wash your dog regularly. Wash any dog blankets regularly.

Change your bedding regularly.

Make sure cooking stuff and dinner pots are always done immediately.

Make sure nappies go out of the house right away.

Then find cleaning products you like the smell of. We use method.

Some great suggestions already of things that I’m not doing (cleaning the big regularly, opening windows daily, washing dogs bed regularly…) plus some nice products to look into

Windows open daily
Hoover daily
Wash dog bedding often
Wash dog!
Then scented candle or reed diffuser etc in a scent you like. Ideally a few the same throughout the downstairs.

Open all the windows twice a day and get a good nappy bin
