HELP: Mouse/Mice?!?

iCantStopScranning · 11/10/2025 16:36

Please reassure me 😅 Just over a week ago, i saw a mouse in my living room (🥲) and immediately got traps down with peanut butter in. Ive had 3 down since that night, and in the last few days added another 4 in my living room, hallway and kitchen. I found (a lot 😭😭 of) droppings behind a unit next to my back door in a corner - no sort of trail to show where they had come from) and there was no holes in skirting etc - so assumed one had come in from when the back door had been open for a few hours a couple of days before.
So this whole week has been silent (apart from my daughter saying she’s seen it run along the kitchen floor?) UNTIL about half an hour ago when I heard her scream — she actually has seen it scuttling towards the gap between the dishwasher and cupboards 😭😭😭. The kitchen door is shut and its now in there with 2 traps. I can’t help but imagine it on my countertop 🤢 and don’t know what to do next - if it hasn’t been caught this week why would it be caught in a few hours?!?
Please tell me there has only been one mouse before (she said it was same colour as one i saw - and like i said no holes in wall by droppings)

😓😓😓

I guess you just have to sit and wait
I know how unsettling it is as have had one before.
They can get through tiny gaps.
You could pay someone who knows more. I paid £60 to get rat from my loft.

iCantStopScranning · 12/10/2025 19:41

I really think it is just the one - still haven’t caught it 🥶 it really is a waiting game

When we had mice, we sieved flour on the floor to check for footprints and work out their entry and exit points. Then we stuffed up the holes tight.

Mrsplants · 12/10/2025 19:48

Please make sure you use humane traps OP. Not those horrendous glue ones.

Willowkins · 12/10/2025 19:50

It's a shock when you see one - I found one in my toaster once and assume it had been electrocuted.
You might also want to check other sources of food - pasta, rice, cereal or anything wrapped in film, cardboard or paper - and make sure they are all in hard, inaccessible containers.

Dolamroth · 12/10/2025 19:50

Try Nutella instead/as well as peanut butter

SecretRoses45 · 12/10/2025 19:53

I would recommend getting a cat/cats if you can. We got a cat 8 years ago and have never had mice since!

Autumn1990 · 12/10/2025 19:53

Snap traps with something hard to get off. We succeeded with pork fat. Took about 3 weeks and we eventually got all 8 of them.

Billybagpuss · 12/10/2025 19:57

It’s also worth trying some of the ultrasonic plugs as the noise is supposed to deter them, inaudible to humans

MrsKateColumbo · 12/10/2025 19:59

I found this year that once I had a couple I just needed to get a Mouse Man (or woman!) In to do his stuff. My efforts were not as good as his

zebrapig · 12/10/2025 20:03

You need to place the traps where they are moving. They normally like to keep to the edges. Nutella is good for attracting them, caught two with it today.

IME humane traps don’t work, the mouse was able to get out again.

What traps do you use?

SullysBabyMama · 12/10/2025 20:27

I caught my two mice in 48hours with peanut butter on one of the electrocuting traps placed along the baseboard in the kitchen. Recommend.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 12/10/2025 20:43

Mice are virtually blind and run along the edges of rooms so keeping traps along skirting boards is best.

I used Nutella and caught them all using clean kill traps which are like a tube they run in - then snap!

I feel for you I hate anything rodenty.

drummingfingers · 12/10/2025 21:26

I bought traps from Amazon that catch the mice then you release them miles from your house (its has be a long way away else they just return, ie a mile away!). Beef Hula Hoops. amazing, Worked every time!

ThatGiddyFawn · 12/10/2025 21:29

I caught mine with mars bar in the traps. Nothing else worked but that.

dearydeary · 12/10/2025 21:32

I was told (when we had them) they can fit through something the size of a rubber on a pencil 😳

If there is one, likely to be more ☹️

Professional rodent catcher?

Don’t get an outdoor car that hunts! I’ve just had a rat and then a mouse in my house.. thanks to said cat….. my stress was ridiculous 😩😩😩😩😩

Cara707 · 14/10/2025 00:37

Hi @iCantStopScranning ,

We've got the same just now! We have several boxed snap traps down and one humane trap (+ a box of 8 humane traps that we are planning to put down) but in a fortnight we've only caught one mouse. I'm sure there are more, it's really unsettling!

We're keeping all surfaces clear of tiny crumbs and all food contained in glass containers where possible but I hate the thought of them crawling around in the kitchen. I've found mouse poo in my room (we live in a bungalow), which just makes my skin crawl!

iCantStopScranning · 27/10/2025 18:36

@menopausalmarewow I’ve never heard of that method! I would hate to see little footprints though 😭
@Mrsplantsyes we have many live traps

thank you to everyone for the advice - we have been using PB and Nutella - and FINALLY (after thinking it must be dead!) I’ve heard the door of a trap shut 🥴
After this saga surely it’s the single one?! Right?!? 🤢🤢 It’s been 3 weeks and it’s the same colour as the one spotted in that time

When we had mice in the block the only thing that got them into the traps was rice cakes. The buggers was eating them in the cupboard so that's what I put in a few traps. Also tried peanut butter, Nutella and only the traps with rice cakes ended up with 2 mice inside

iCantStopScranning · 27/10/2025 19:31

@Micelovemegood username 🤣🤣 it’s been taken away now, but after not hearing or seeing anything for 2weeks, I am telling myself it was just a stray that ran in the back door!!
