Dry Cleaning

Do you still get items dry cleaned?

I have a coat at home that has been hanging in an understairs cupboard all year, along with the dog biscuit - so it stinks of Harringtons!!! If I read the label, like a lot of clothes, it says to dry clean only.

Do you do that, or do you take a gamble and welly wang it in the washing machine?

To be honest, I wouldn't have a clue where my nearest dry cleaners is!!

What type of coat is it? I don’t think many coats would do well in a washing machine, if it’s one you like I would definitely get it dry cleaned

Have you tried hanging it up outside on a dry, breezy day and seeing if that gets rid of the smell?

I try to avoid dry cleaning anything, as the solvent that is used (perc) is a probable carcinogen. Most things seem to be fine to be washed on a delicate/hand wash cycle in cold water, but I haven't tried that with an expensive coat.

If you do decide to dry clean it, hang it outside for a few hours afterwards to allow the solvent to dissipate.

It isn't an expensive coat, but i like it. I've had it a while, but it doesn't get worn much as its my 'going away' coat. It's wool/leather. Has zips in all the right places and more importantly ..... it's flattering as it's the perfect length.

I think I'll shove it in the machine on a cool wash and keep everything crossed. I'm going for a week in France next month and I think it'll be the perfect thickness and will look good day and night. However, if the plan goes tits up I've got time to pop to Next 😆

DON’T put leather in the washing machine! Kindly, are you mad?! Please find a dry cleaner, you will be so disappointed if you ruin the coat! Most Morrisons stores near me have a Timpsons which will take dry cleaning, for example. Or.. just google it…?

I don't think it's real leather, not for the price I paid. Probably leatherette. I'll check the label.

I'm loving your username by the way 😅
