Cobwebs, witches and ghouls await us as we head into October. The weather is changing (here anyway) so what better time to start, or restart, new routines!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Zones:

  1. Entryway, porch and dining room
  2. Kitchen
  3. Bathroom and one other room
  4. Master bedroom
  5. Living room

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you. Well, they should but there is some technical difficulties on their end while they update the website. You can also check out the Facebook page, she updates that daily multiple times

THIS you have achieved so much! Well done on your ta das.
My ta das consist of currently drinking my 2nd cup of coffee for the morning, getting dressed into comfy clothes, but I'm not completely ready for the day yet. That's it! It is almost 9:30am, I've been awake for just over an hour.

@Searchingfordaffodils I was a breast feeding peer support worker too!

LOLS are put away.
Decided to swap the desk for my chair and little table.
Then decided I preferred it with the desk 😄
Cleaned the top of my chest of drawers.
Stripped off the bits of peeling wallpaper in my bedroom, just looks tidier until I get round to decorating.
Nearly finished the sort out!

HauntingHazel · 13/10/2025 04:21

Cherry well done for nearly finishing the sort out!

I got 3 LOLs washed and dried today.
That's it.
I've spent most of my day sitting on the couch, doomscrolling!
I'm about to take my shower and will do some extra skincare as part of renewing my spirit.

Monday is home bleugh day. Vacuum, change sheets, empty bins etc.

We are now in zone 3, the bathroom and one extra room.
Monday's mission is to do a 27 fling boogie in the bathroom. Set your timer for 15 minutes and find 27 things you can toss. Empty containers, wrappers, out of date cosmetics.
The other room is the spare bedroom this time. Also do another 27 fling boogie in this room too. If you don't have a spare room or it doesn't need attention, pick a different room.

Baby Step 13: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-13/
Today, complete a mission. The link for the launch pad isn't working, so you can either do today's mission, or you can find a different one on the app.

Monday is a day off work with DS. I will attempt house blugh, 10 minute timer each as flylady suggested. It's just the bed sheet changing that takes far longer. I could strip the beds in that time but not finish remaking them. And I don't want to get to bedtime with unmade beds! The other jobs you can stop when the timer goes off and a bit of hoovering/dusting/window cleaning is better than none.

Yesdedas:

Cleaned the bathroom floor, with soapy water cloths, corners and skirting boards too and towel rack. This had not been done since spotting worms and the potty is in the bathroom.

Sorted a mountain of clean laundry.

I think DS is free of adult worms, not seen since Wednesday and he has stopped scratching or asking for cream on his bum.

To do:
Complete morning routine.

Get DD to school on time.

Stay out for the morning with DS

Sort and clean out bottom of fridge drawer as there's probably loose mouldy veg there.

Review baby steps...

Hallelujah on the worm front Alwayslearning

I have ended up off work with under the weather dc. Although he is looking a lot brighter so should just be today.

It's strange nowadays to be home just me and one dc! He's tucked up on the sofa watching Peppa Pig in her snazzy new house so ill try and be my "future friend" and get sorted for the rest of the week

Ta da
💙 school run
💚 sent important email
💛 wash on

💚 dry laundry away
💛 recycling out

I am sad about lack of DS nap. He is nearly 3. He fell asleep as we arrived home from out in the morning. Then he would have settled properly to sleep if I cuddled him, he was insistent but I needed to wee in which time he perked right up and was ready to play. So I am trying to do less TV, so settled him with a new magazine toy shopping set I bribed him with this morning. I set a 10 minute timer and cleaned the bathroom. Unusually for him he didn't follow me, I came down to him sat on some bank notes he had taken out of my purse, I'd not put out of reach. Now I'm covered in stickers too.

I got out some polish and a duster, but there's mess everywhere so I can't dust. I have about half an hour before heading out to school as I'm definitely walking the 20-30 minutes there because we are not ready to drop the nap. I could change the sheets, but other things seem more of a priority, eg decluttering, tidying mess, finding hats and gloves. but, we can't see worm eggs....

I should revisit babysteps, I did 15 minutes room rescue of our living/dining room but I have a mess maker with me.

HauntingHazel · 13/10/2025 14:09

Yay on the worm front Alwayslearning25! It seems like the end is nigh!
I usually do my home bleugh on Tuesdays as that's when I'm off and have them time to do it. It can also be spread out throughout the week, if needed.

THIS I hope DS is feeling better soon. Well done for being a future friend to yourself!

Alwayslearning25 · 13/10/2025 14:29

I don't work Mondays now, so it's a good day for it. DS is playing independently really nicely now, and with his toys, shame we have to do the school run. I got carried away changing sheets and have upended DS room wiping down his bedframe. It was good to do, but none of the beds are made. 🙈 I think spreading it out is good. DH does lots of the jobs in the house blugh but he's not been well with a cold recently so house is a bit more dirty. I feel bad I've not been more on it. But today got a few things done.

HauntingHazel · 14/10/2025 05:50

Alwayslearning25 I would say you've done a lot in one day! It will soon become routine and it'll be easier to keep on top of it.

I didn't get as much done today as I would have liked. I did get 4 LOLs washed and dried, rotated DW & washed handwash dishes. But after lunch, I did nothing (except laundry).

OP posts:
HauntingHazel · 14/10/2025 05:59

Tuesday is plan & play day.

Tuesday's mission is to shine our sinks and baths. First scrub your sink or bath with whatever works for you, then spray on some window cleaner and shine them up. You may want to be careful with doing this in the bath though, you don't want anyone to slip and fall!

In the spare bedroom, when was the last time the sheets got washed? Are they clean? When are you next having company stay over? Maybe it's time to wash those sheets. Do what you can to get the room guest ready in 15 minutes.

Go read the essay about how to use a calendar.
Continue with your routines.

Morning

My washing hasn't been drying this week, it's too damp outside. I've been putting it out anyway and finishing it off on the inside airer.

I'm over my own clutter threshold downstairs and it's frustrating me but I haven't worked out how to resolve it. I recently restricted screens a lot more which means more playing mess that I can't really complain about!

We are planning dc birthday parties so today is going to be a day of list making.

HauntingHazel · 14/10/2025 14:13

Dilly do you need more storage solutions? Relocate some items? Declutter somewhere else to make room for those other items you still need? You've probably already thought about those, but figured I'd drop those questions in case you hadn't.

I have a lot I'd like to do today, I have been lazy the last couple of days!

To dos:
☕️ more laundry (sheets & towels mainly)
☕️ vacuum
☕️ mop
☕️ bleach both bathrooms
☕️ clean mirrors and glass on doors
☕️ grocery shopping
☕️ bank
☕️ paint my nails
☕️ work on Halloween signs (decorations) <maybe>
☕️ make another batch of caramels

HauntingHazel · 14/10/2025 18:01

Just dropping in with some ta das:
🎃 vacuumed whole house, including stairs
🎃 mopped whole house (that's not carpeted of course)
🎃 2nd lol in washer (towels)
🎃 1st lol in dryer (sheets)

I just sat down for a few minutes, my back is really hurting now I've vacuumed etc. Not sure if I pulled a muscle or if it's just strained 😫

I figured I'll leave the house for a little bit, get things from the shop that I need, etc. Maybe it'll give my back a break before I clean the bathrooms etc.

OP posts:
CherryogDog · 14/10/2025 18:47

@HauntingHazel hope your back feels better soon.
I did something to my back at the weekend, just turned and it went into spasm, I've done it before doing something really mundane like pulling the hand brake up.
It's eased off now.
I'm determined to TaDa upstairs tomorrow, it's been dragging on for far too long.

DillyDeclutter · 14/10/2025 19:16

Hazel those are all good questions. Im hanging on to some things until after a family visit in a few weeks, then I can move out a lot of toys that are too young for my dc. In the meantime I've relocated some bits which is making me feel better.

Hope the bad backs are feeling better!

HauntingHazel · 14/10/2025 20:46

Cherry I'm glad your back is feeling better. Would a list of to dos for upstairs help motivate you? It might be a little more manageable if all the tasks were broken into smaller chunks.

Dilly I'm glad my questions were helpful! Just don't forget where you have relocated items!

I went to the shops and got what I needed to get, including groceries. I do still have to put them away, which I'll do once I'm done eating my lunch.

OP posts:
HauntingHazel · 15/10/2025 05:47

Ta das:
👻 bank
👻 shop to buy DS some socks, some face cream for me, toys for Dobby
👻 grocery shopping
👻 bleached both bathrooms
👻 more LOLs x2
👻 remade bed
👻 put clean laundry away
👻 cleaned mirrors and glass on doors
👻 decluttered and reorganised both bathrooms (cupboard under the sink)
👻 cleaned up kitchen as I cooked dinner
👻 added a couple of gift cards to my Amazon (I'll throw them away once I've used them)
👻 sorted out handbags (I bought a couple of new ones today, so switched one of them out)

OP posts:
HauntingHazel · 15/10/2025 05:55

Thankfully my back isn't as sore, but isn't completely better yet either.

Wednesday is anti-procrastination day.
Wednesday's mission is to wash your bath mats and shower curtains.
In the spare bedroom, get rid of the cobwebs in the corners. She says to use a feather duster, I usually use the vacuum, with the brush attachment.

Baby Step 15: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-15/
Add making your bed to your morning routine. This could also include airing out your bed, just do it neatly!

I'm glad your back isn't so bad @HauntingHazel

All.I've got to sort out is three boxes of bits and bobs, a box of paperwork to file into my new organiser thingy, another cull of my wardrobe so I can fit my non horsey/doggy coats in, then I'm done and can start cleaning.
It's not much but it does feel.like it's a lot, especially as I've had very little sleep.
Had yet another row with DP about his boots which has left me feeling like shit.
I've told him he can buy a caravan and live in the garden, he can be as grubby as he wants.

Alwayslearning25 · 15/10/2025 09:44

@HauntingHazel hope you're back feels better.
Todos:
Hang up washing, find out how to do factory reset on dehumidifier as it's got a problem of it changing settings and turning itself off, it did this a while back and factory reset helped.

Go out to toddler gym and get him to sleep after lunch.

Sort out laundry and fill a charity bag up with unwanted clothes. It's for the school so I'll take it at the end of the school day.

10 minutes timer each for dust, hoovering and window cleaning.

Decide which baby step I'm on, I think evening routine as I currently do nothing before bed except maybe put dishwasher on, so sleepy.

THISbitchingwitch · 15/10/2025 10:36
