Vacuum cleaner fully clogged

Hi,

Embarrassed to share this as not sure how it's got so clogged without us realising but our Shark Anti-Hair wrap vacuum has got fully clogged in the upper part of the dust cap section.

Hard to explain so I'll add photos for context. Dust and hair isn't collecting at the bottom of the dust cap as it did before and it seems to have compacted together in the part above (where the hose connects to).

Can anyone advise on how this can be emptied please? I've tried using heavy duty tweezers and even by hand but it only comes out in very small quantities. Then the dust disintegrates.

Is there any other way to access this section as atm I'm only accessing it through the circular part (where the hose connects) but this gives very limited access.

It would be great if the vacuum could be opened maybe from above so the waste can be emptied in one fell swoop.

The vacuum itself still appears to work...the green light still comes on and stays on during vacuuming.

Any suggestions/solutions would be most welcome...thanks!

it definitely looks like the top opens because on the second picture you can see hinges, so it opens on the other side. If you push that’s square on the second picture does that release a catch so the top opens up?

Or can you put a picture of the make and model up s0 we can find the instructions

The top opens you lift it from the front and over a small lip then just push down to close after.

If only these things came with instructions 😉

I have a shark and once you find stuff isn’t being pulled through properly it’s a good idea to wash the filters.

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 27/09/2025 15:05

The second picture seems to show two plastic hinges - does the top handle part unclip and pivot away from the clear dust container? Shark are pretty good with online instruction manuals, and I suspect there’ll be one for yours if you google the model number.

That looks like the filter. Look at the instructions (online if you've lost the manual) and see how to empty it.

Filters on bagless vacuums need emptying frequently, have you really never done it before?
