Which Carpet Cleaner - for better or worse

I am looking for a carpet cleaner/ washer and am torn between different brands and reviews...
There are a few obvious leaders, but struggling to choose and hope that you can advise from your own experience.

Criteria: considerable carpeted area and stairs, so reasonably maneuverable but robust and powerful would be ideal, and not leaving carpets too wet.

A bonus if it can be used on hard floor/ vinyl for occasional deep cleaning downstairs.

There are previous threads, but things change with time, and I am hoping for a fresh take on things. Thank you for taking the time to help with feedback.

I bought a shark. it was reasonable the first time I used it but now it doesn’t suck the water up, so I wouldn’t buy it again!

I can’t comment on a machine but I use the HG carpet cleaning solution often and I cannot recommend it enough! It has taken out the worst stains including make up, toddler mess and paint! We have had plenty of unfortunate accidents in recent years. 😅

@twosandwiches hope it’s still on warranty and can be replaced

I've had a bissell upright carpet shampooer for many years and it's been great, no idea what the newer ones are like but it's still good.
