Are robot vacuums any good?

I really want a robot vacuum. My DS8 is like a crumb making machine wherever he goes, even if he’s not eating!! Are they really any good? Can I get one that travels from room to room? Or am I expecting too much from AI yet? 🤣 I’m on the look out for anything now that just makes life easier!

My friend has two called Janet and Joan. Janet stops dead and refuses to move every time she encounters a patch of sunlight - obviously likes sunbathing. Joan has been known to make a run for it out the front door and get lodged under a hedge. Janet usually just gets stuck under the guest toilet sink and gives up for the day.

I’m thinking of getting one but concerned about how it would deal with cat vomit and rotting rats.

I can’t say I’ve had the best experience. If you have mainly carpets, I don’t feel like they are the best without a back up. The suction on these are nothing like you’d get on the average cleaner.
I’ve just bought the newest dirt detect Shark. Based on a review that it was “too powerful” 😂 I hate the size, I hate the weight, but the actual job it’s doing is beyond any shark or other vacuum I’ve had.

Ahhh, fond memories of Manuel constantly trapped by a ray of sunlight across the floor....

Thanks everyone. There’s so much choice out there now I don’t know what one to go with 🤦🏻‍♀️. We only have laminate floors so want one that mops too.

Mine wasn’t cheap - I actually asked my DP for it as my present for last Xmas, and he said I’m not buying you a hoover for Xmas! I said no honestly this will be the best present ever! And it genuinely has been! He did get some vouchers off work to make it a bit cheaper but I’m impressed. It identifies wires, trainers, dog bowls etc.

I wish my husband would even give me a vacuum for Christmas

We have the Dyson robot vac. Costly but brilliant! He maps the rooms and you can select areas within the room you don’t want him to go to (under the sofa where there are wires for example). We set him off twice daily on a timed schedule (morning and afternoon) and the floors always look spotless. We still hand vac but once/twice weekly rather than daily. Love him!

Love my eufy 2nd. After eufy 1st had a terrible dog poo incident and died.
RIP

eufy 2nd died within a year but he was within his warranty so they sent Noofy. Noofy empties himself! Hes amazing!!!!!

We have a Roborok and it’s great. It mops and vacuums on a set schedule everyday and empties itself so only have to empty bin and top up water around once per week. Also like that you can set exclusion zones, so when the Xmas tree was up, as temporary things.

I love mine, eufy x10 omni. It copes with our thick rugs and does a pretty good job at keeping the floors clear and mopped. You can set up exclusion zones so ours is banned from going under the sofa because it kept getting tangled in the cables. It self empties and you just empty / top up the base station when needed. You can send it to spot clean as well. We also take it upstairs where it will hoover but won't mop because it can't find the base station. It makes me smile when I get a notification whilst at work that it has finished cleaning and is heading home to wash it's mops.

I have a Cleanova W11 which hoovers and mops. Maps your floor areas to an app. You can set no go areas if it gets stuck there. Overall it does a good job but gets full up quickly (2 dogs) and the roller needs pet hair removing. So it’s not a case of set it off and let it work for an hour. I bought it to save time but I have to prepare by taking up rugs and putting dining chairs up on table. With clearing blockages, I’m not convinced it’s saving much time but should be better in the summer.

Our first was called Manuel, as he zigzagged about cluelessly.

Manuel went back after too many incidents of wedging himself under the sofa and beeping for help at 2am.

He was replaced by Englebert. DS tried to ride him and bust him.

We will have a third shortly when we move. Names suggestions welcome.

Ours is called Rupert! Got him from Lidl. It's literally all I have talked about on Mumsnet for the last week.......

Haven't used the mop function yet and dog HATES him but he's hoovered more in the week since he's arrived than I think I've done in the last 6 months.......
