Wipweable oilcoth tablecloths pvc v vinyl

I bought one cut from a roll from John Lewis. Its ok but tomato, curry and some pens stain it. I was looking for another one on ebay and one of the shops selling them state that pvc ones are more like traditional oilcoths. They are also more expensive than just vinyl. So are these ones better than vinyl and then why on the shop do they call them pvc vinyl?

Has anyone got a pvc one and is non-stainable?

I wish they would make more that are dark orange so most of the stains don't show anyway.

pvc stands for polyvinyl chloride so I'm not sure what the difference is, orwhether there even is one.

we have one cut from a roll and it hasn't stained yet...

I bought an orange funky patterned one in Ikea last night. I too have found certain types stain. You've just got to be quick with the wipes!

Am not sure of the difference wither, am sure actualy I read it on here that the pvc ones stain less. I must do a search. They are always more expensive.

Was yours on a roll maidamess? Or precut?

Yes its fine if you are fast but I am invariably distracted!

My reasonably new oilcloth (cut from a roll) from JL is horribly stained due to my sluttish messiness. The cleaner lifted a pile of paperwork off it the other day to find that the bottom item, a catalogue or mag, has stained the oilcloth irreparably. Right in the middle. A4 size.

I'm gutted.

Next time, sod the cream cloth with pretty polkadots. Black, brown or navy all the way.

err Littlemissmac where is your dotty one from? sounds lovely!

tassisssss · 01/06/2008 15:34

oooh, ja9 i was looking at these with a friend in John Lewis in Glasgow recently and they had some fab ones including a cream one with polka dots, very cath kidston, that i LOVED (and didn't manage to convince her to buy!).

think our local fabric shop that's downstairs and useless with a buggy has some nice options too

PVC = poly vinyl chloride

will find the shop name if anyone wants.

tassisssss - thanks for that- that's brilliant info.

jks - i'd love to know the name f the ebay shop - red with white dots was exactly what i had in mind.

justkeepswimming · 01/06/2008 19:46

hi,

here is the shop home

red with dots

Can't remember what size i ordered, about £25 i think. Love it so much think i might get alternatives for when i feel like a change, Christmas, Birthdays, etc

they had a lovely red japanese one I was going to buy but now they only do it in beige. Myabe I should start eating beige food.

littlelissmac, yes newspapers and leaftlets just get imprinted on then. So many paterns have a cream/white background too so it makes it worse.
