Measuring cup for washing powder?

Bupster · 24/08/2025 15:16

Somehow, I've put the scoop I used to use for washing powder somewhere safe, and I can't find it. I've tried using a mug and I've tried the bottom of a plastic bottle. Neither do the job really. I can't for the life of me remember where I got the original from. Where on earth do people buy washing powder scoops/measuring cups from?

I've looked on Amazon and there's about eleventy billion, all of which seem to come in packs of 50 (slight exaggeration) - I only need one. I feel like this is really obvious and at least fifteen people will post telling me so, for which I promise I'll be very grateful!

Ours is long gone. We use a Gu ramekin lol works well.

FourTop · 24/08/2025 15:18

No idea. I just use a yoghurt pot.

Meredusoleil · 24/08/2025 15:20

Omg thank you for posting this OP! I have had this exact same problem, but just use the dosing lid from the liquid bottle as I like to put the powder straight into the drum rather than in the drawer.

Topseyt123 · 24/08/2025 15:22

Why do you need to measure it so precisely? As someone else has said, a washed out yogurt pot would do, surely. Or a teacup/half a mug.

Gazelda · 24/08/2025 15:23

i use a scoop that came in a tub of vanish oxyclean, many years ago.

starpatch · 24/08/2025 15:23

I use an empty spice jar

CalzoneOnLegs · 24/08/2025 15:27

@Arlanymor oh sorry - you already said

Thisismyalterego · 24/08/2025 15:28

I was also going to suggest the scoop from Vanish Oxyclean.

LoudPlumDog · 24/08/2025 15:29

I took a tablespoon out of my cutlery drawer. Perfect.

chiefscoutsgoldaward · 24/08/2025 15:30

I’ve got a random set of American cup measures for baking, and one of those was the right size.

That what we use. IKEA do a set for £2 if you have one nearby?

CalzoneOnLegs · 24/08/2025 15:47

@Arlanymor have one ! life is too short to deny yourself Pizza 🍕❤️

mumda · 24/08/2025 15:53

I think we are using one the container from of those small puddings you microwave... probably a chocolate one.

StanfreyPock · 24/08/2025 16:17

Coffee measuring spoon here, no idea why but we seem to have loads of these...

BogRollBOGOF · 24/08/2025 18:09

A shot glass here. Good for getting through the tough compressed zone at the bottom of the box.

itsgettingweird · 24/08/2025 18:13

Over the years I’ve used a medicine cup (that come with calpol etc), yoghurt pot, protein powder scoop and my current one …… an old egg cup 😂

JennyChawleigh · 24/08/2025 18:15

We use a plastic cup that was bought for one of our children - so it's at least 36 years old 😀

Dogaredabomb · 24/08/2025 19:31

Egg cup here 🥚

SingingSands · 24/08/2025 19:33

I use the only surviving espresso mug from a set of four bought 25 years ago. It was lonely and unused on the shelf so I repurposed it and now it gets handled daily. I like to think it's a much happier wee mug now that it is useful again 😁😁

Bupster · 24/08/2025 20:15

Thank you everyone! Particularly @Arlanymor and @CalzoneOnLegs - I've sent off the message and will post back with a picture of the scoop if they send me one!

Also thank you so much everyone for reassuring me that I'm not the only person in the world who would really like a bloody washing powder scoop, or who has been spending months repurposing things. I feel much less daft.
