I have separate blackout curtain liners attached to my curtains using hooks but they keep popping off/getting separated! Is there a solution?

I use the hooks shown to attach blackout liners to the curtains but they liners will sometimes pop off the curtains (probably because someone opens them in a rather aggressive manner 😀).

Is there a better solution?

After putting the liners on I was thinking of running a string through and around each hook to make it more difficult for the curtain to pop off.

Any other suggestions?

(I can't afford to buy new curtains and would rather not try sewing the liners to the curtains as that sounds difficult and I don't have a sewing machine)

Help!

Could you attach Velcro?

Metal curtain hooks might stay on better, or you could use split rings? Fiddly to put on, but won't come off.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 24/08/2025 10:45

We use the same ones. I, for once, read and followed the instructions and it was really fiddly but they’re staying put beautifully.

It was a while ago that I added the liners but I seem to recall the technique was not the obvious way that I would have thought to use the hooks.

I used the metal ones and then bent them so they couldn’t easily pop off

If you're not too bothered about the appearance/making little holes in the curtains these work well to hold fabric together.

Wow. The metal curtain hooks are amazing.
I've bent them back so in theory the liners should be unable to detach from the curtain.

I'll report back in a year.

I sewed my liners to the curtains. Couldn’t be dealing with hooking them separately to my curtain poles. I have dunelm eyelet curtains and brought these liners.

When you put them on you have to give the lining a good tug downwards so it sits at the bottom of the loop made by the short end.

Just a thought - are you using the same hook for both the curtains and the lining, or are you using a separate set for the lining? If you're using separate ones I can see how they'd come off. You're supposed to hook the lining on and then put the curtain on the same hook. The curtain hangs normally and the lining can't come off because the curtain is in the way.
