Avocado Plant Help!

user1465146157 · 17/08/2025 18:57

I planted 4 avocado stones and they all grew into plants, in the same pot.

To give them some space, I separated them, but now they all look drab like they dying. Leaves are drooping even though I've watered them, used plant food and changed the soil.

Will they take up again or will the die?

Is there anything I can do to revive them? Usually when this happened, I'd give them water and they'd be fine the next day.

Any advice appreciated!

I’m in awe that you managed to grow then at all! What’s the secret? Sorry I can’t help about keeping them healthy .

Ladedahlia it startes as an experiment. I put 2 slightly dried out avocado seeds in water in about march on a sunny window ledge. Then I saw roots coming through i kept changing water every week or so.
I think posted them together about 6 weeks or so ina very small pot.
Watered regularly but they don't like to sit in very wet soil as they get root rot.
They need lots of water more flushing really. I keep them outside after about June but inside when weather turns in autumn

My guess is that in separating them each lost some of its roots and changing the soil might have disturbed them further. In general I think the advice is to not feed a plant when it’s stressed, and in your case they probably need to grow roots now not more leaves yet until those are there to sustain the top growth. I’d just carry on watering -
but not overwatering - and hope they recover.

I’ve got a couple I started earlier this year. We had some avocados with big stones so I could sit one in a ‘hyacinth vase’ (the glass things designed for growing a bulb in water). Each one took quite a long time to grow a root before being potted up. They’re both outside at the moment, the larger one is a bit over a foot tall, still single stemmed.

I have two avocado plants grown from the stone. It’s a labour of love. 3 1/2 years in the are both now taller than me (5ft 9) and flourishing. They are now outside but too tall to come inside for the winter so not sure what to do with them this year. They are on a veranda so protected from wind and I may have to leave them there and protect them with some sort of wrapping. Have a greenhouse so I could put them in there for the winter but still think it will be very cold for them. Still another 4 years to go til they could potentially bear fruit.
