Puddle of water in garden

We've had a puddle of water in the garden. It's near a tap and hose but we're pretty sure it's not that. But we're monitoring. Anyway it's not draining away. It's on top of earth. We're going to further investigate ourselves.

We're not sure if it's coming from a pipe leading to the tap. Or what. It doesn't seem to smell.

If we called someone in to look any idea who to call? Would it be a plumber? Or what?

Thanks!

Could be a burst underground water pipe or blocked drain, given the dry weather it’s unlikely to be a natural source such as underground spring. I’d call the water board first and perhaps your insurance company for advice

I’ve got a feeling all water pipes are the homeowners responsibility now that enter the property (ie in your garden)

This may sound silly but it works
turn off your inside stop cock if you can
get a wooden broomstick put it on the outside tap and put your ear to it
if you can hear a wooshing noise you probably have a leak on your pipes

We had this and we called our water company first off. They sent someone round who confirmed there was a leak.

We then had to have it repaired. The water company quoted for the job, but they also gave us a list of independent contractors so we could ring round to get the cheapest.

When we had this (surface water during a dry period) it was drains and the problem was on a neighbouring property. But there was a smell. So I would agree with leak on water pipe

Thank you!

I'll try that @whatdoidonowffs
