OK so I need a new kettle to go with a change of kitchen colour. I also have a nice new induction hob and thought I might make the most of it and have a stove top kettle as I think it might be a bit more energy efficient. And also like the idea of having less clutter on the worktop.

So have you ever made the change? Was it worth it? Is it a bit more tedious having to manually take the lid off the stove top kettle, put it back on, turn on the hob, be there for when it boils as it doesn't have an automatic switch off....

I think I'm talking myself out of it here but struggling find a regular kettle in the right colour and I really love this ! ! ! But will I regret the extra work involved in making a quick cup of tea?

What's your experience?

For any plug-in kettle, regardless of age, virtually 100% of the electricity it consumes is turned into heat. There’s no way to improve upon that. So, using a stove-top kettle will not be more energy efficient, even with an induction hob, plus it won’t turn off automatically when the water boils.

Yes having to turn it off myself when it boils is off-putting. I suppose if I have doubts about a stovetop I should probably just stick to a regular plug in kettle!

I have a stovetop kettle. Very fast on induction hob and one less thing on the worktop. Get a whistling one and you won’t forget to switch it off
