Moths!

Found a few silvery moths crawling around in a wicker basket where I keep my scarves. I’ve washed everything - no holes to be seen on any of the scarves - and Hoovered the carpet thoroughly.
Saw this on the underside of the basket - not sure if it’s just accumulated dust and fluff or something to do with the moths. Can I Hoover it or does it need to go?

Moth frass..... yes you can hoover it up. It might have eggs in it, so empty the bag/cannister outside. I would get some spray just in case. Acana is good, its a "natural" chemical from plants which will kill moths, lavae and eggs and provide a lavender detterant. Also just airing it outside in the sun, when it returns!

Keep an eye out. I had an issue last year in DD's wardrobe, and although we cleared the initial infestation, I have been battling the little buggers ever since. You need to be vigilant.

Having said all of that, other DD has similar in a basket in which she had stored knitting wool, she just dumped all the contents, and thoroughly hoovered the basket, and didn't have any other issues. She did have wooden floors though, so I think they were confined to just the basket.

Thank you @HostaCentral That’s really helpful. Never had moths before, ugh 😣

I got really caught up in it initially, very anxious. But then just reconciled to the fact that they are very common, so many people have them, and they are just little insects that don't harm us. They are a nuisance though, and you don't want them eating your carpets and jumpers!

Yes, I guess so …though I know someone who has an awful infestation and has never been able to get rid of them. The thought horrifies me!

I would actually just get rid of this basket and keep the floor area that it was on completely clear. There will be bits you have missed and the moths will return (and will have probably spread elsewhere to be honest). Is your carpet wool? Once I got moths there was almost nothing that I could do to get rid of them and they ruined the carpet amongst other things.

Just posted on another moth thread, indorex flea spray got rid of moths in my house when all anti moth products had failed.
