Having a health nightmare. Long term chest infection, current cancer investigation and feel exhausted.

I'm having carpet laid on Monday and am trying to get the rooms ready. I'm in pain from my biopsies and struggling. I've done most of it over the last few days. Emptied bookshelves and cupboards. Moved what furniture I can out.

Should I hoover the carpet? The sitting room one isn't particularly clean but the bedroom is fine. Anything else I need to do to prepare?

I am sorry you are having a rough time with the health issues, I hope all goes well.

Do you mean hoover your current laid carpet before it gets pulled up ?
Definitely not
Or is your new carpet going on top of your old one ? I would I think, but by no means is it absolutely necessary

Thanks. Yes, hoover the one that's going to be taken up. I won't bother then. My hoover is heavy and I really don't have the energy. I've got to put all the stuff back again 😓I'm thinking about hiring someone to help.

Oooh heck no don't hoover the one that's coming up .
That would be like washing old clothes before putting them in the bin.

Depending on the company that's putting your new one down they may help you move some heavy stuff back , it would be worth ringing them to see if they'd be willing to help.
Just bear in mind that a lot of carpet shops employ a 3rd party to lay the carpet so they may not be able to say if the fitters will help.

Do you have family, friends or neighbours that could help. ?

DeedlessIndeed · 06/07/2025 06:02

Do you have any cleaners local. Our cleaners helped put stuff back on shelves / in cupboards after building disruption in the past.

Or if it's heavy furniture would a local man with a van / handyman type person help?

Agree Don't bother to vacuum in advance, unless it was so bad it'd cause a mess on the way out.

Needsomesupport528 · 06/07/2025 11:28

I don't have anyone to help but have found some local cleaners who I could pay to help put everything back and then do a deep clean. The carpet is filthy as I haven't been able to hoover and I thought it might cause a mess, but since I'll be cleaning anyway, maybe I won't bother. The furniture isn't that heavy that I need a man, I could manage it with someone else.

Thanks! Results on Thursday. I've brought some stuff back into the sitting room as the kitchen was impossible to use but it's going to be a job and in a heatwave as well.
