Help me create a family information area....

I'm having a mad organisation/creative moment... I have a wall in my house which currently has nothing on it but I want to turn it into a large information area. We have a family calendar which would be at the centre and I'm thinking about creating pockets for each member of the family and a wipeclean board for shopping lists, as well as having a cork board to pin things on. Basically any day to day info will be posted there for all to see. BUT I would like it to look tidy and not too office like iyswim. Was thinking about covering the wall in magnetic paint but it only comes in an ugly gray colour so thats a no no.
So can anyone help me find what I need - also what else can put up there?? the more creative the better

Could you paint over the magnetic paint with a top coat of ordinary paint? maybe not.

Yes - that's what you do with the magnetic paint - you paint over it with ordinary paint. We've done it in our study and in DD's room, but I think I needed to put more coats on, as it doesn't really hold things very well. We've put some moulding round the bit in the study, to look like a picture frame. Looks good.

Funky magnet board?

JackieNo · 23/05/2008 20:09

This is rather good, but ££.
We have something like this for our keys, but it doesn't store post as well - this looks fab. (this whole site is great, tbh).

More magnet boards.

And I just saw this in the catalogue and thought it looked good.

Thanks Jackie - typically I really like the expensive one but I like the magnet bars as well. The ringbinder is cool but I think I need something to put up that I can look at.
youareamazing don't be under the illusion that this is normal for me - I have these bursts of organisation and then it all goes horribly wrong

OOh - some cool date magnets. (hopefully from this page)
How about this with one pocket for each member of the family (assuming you don't have more than 4 people, obviously). From this page.

And oooh again.
