Mould flecks on washing

I regularly clean my washing machine using either bicarbonate and vinegar or dettol wm cleaner and putting on a 95c wash, it doesn’t smell and I get a brush in the crevices around the door seal. However, I am getting black mould flakes come out on the clean clothes after every cycle. Can anyone advise please? Thanks

Have you cleaned the filter? You can also try tipping the machine to drain all of the water through the little drainage tube, as perhaps the mould is remaining below the level where the pump removes water. We put a machine in storage once and the amount of water removed by tipping it was quite surprising.

How old is it? Do you keep the door ajar between loads?

A lot of the crud which collects in washing machines sits "behind the scenes". Years ago (and I am going back about 30+ years) it was quite normal for washing machines to have stainless steel outer tubs (the part which the drum sits inside), but then year on year more and more plastic drums became the norm...it used to be that high-models such as Bosch, AEG, and Miele used stainless steel, but I don't think that's the case now. Anyway, the point is that the metal outer drums stayed clean, where as plastic doesn't.

Add to that, low temperature washes, less water per cycle, plus those new tablets in a sticky wrapper, even liquids (which don't have the same ingredients as big-box powder), and there's much opportunity for gunk to collect in places you won't ever see. It may even be that something is collecting behind the paddles of the drum - on some machines the paddles can be removed, so it may be worth a google of your model to see if that's a possibility.
