I hate my shower cubicle

4 in the house
It's constantly getting marks on the glass or bits of conditioner the DCs flick at it or whatever they do
I thought I'd hit on a good cleaning hack from TikTok of using rinse aid as well as my usual washing up liquid and vinegar- which cleaned it but I can't get it to buff up nicely. Do I need it going over again with a window cleaner product ? Only for it to get wet again 4 hours later?
I long for my old bathroom and a shower curtain sometimes !!!

I feel your pain! when DH fitted a new bathroom here 8 years ago, I was going to have a glass screen, till I stayed at my DDs.i back tracked got a washable curtain.for you, battery window cleaner and non rinse method shower cleaner.

Runmybathforme · 14/06/2025 18:04

I feel your pain. I ended up getting a
‘ non stick ‘ type of shower curtain. So much better.

Since having new shower cubicles we squidgy the glass after s shower. Kept them great. Also NEVER use soap just shower gel and cleansing bars. Also tbh does it matter?

DoreenDo · 14/06/2025 19:36

I have a squeegee but nobody uses it
I'd just like it to look clean and ir doesn't.
Is the method spray to use after you've cleaned it and dried it ? The daily cleaners confuse me ! (Doesn't take much )

I have a huge shower with large custom glass doors I was dreading the clean - however microfibre clothes are a game changer !! 4 months in and it’s still spotless no water marks etc

Cakeandcheeseforever · 14/06/2025 19:46

Spraying method brand shower cleaner after each shower works for me :)

HappiestSleeping · 14/06/2025 19:47

Water softener. I have a Harvey. It's fabulous.

DoreenDo · 14/06/2025 19:52

Do you spray on the wet cubicle once you have showered ?
I tried to dry with a micro fibre today and it just didn't work. Is it because they may have been washed with fabric softener? And if so can I re wash as I have loads of the things and they just smear stuff around.
I have purdy and figg cloths and also b and m type ones.
I hate it !

I have gone back to shower curtains and it so much easier - just stick them in the washer every fortnight and done. There are beautiful shower curtains around now - I like the cotton ones with a weighted waterproof lining.

Anyway, that doesn't help you. Tbh, I think you're on a hiding to nothing here. You are never going to keep the screen as clean and shiny as you want it. Just focus on the clean and mould-free, and work on a zen-like state of acceptance with the shiny.

Nannyfannybanny · 20/06/2025 14:59

Yes, spray as soon as you Finnish showering

DoreenDo · 22/06/2025 20:25

I've bought some shower shine. Let's see what happens

Mine is the Bain of my life so I feel your pain it always looks horrid . Would also love advice

Laiste · 23/06/2025 07:45

Last house had glass shower door and despite my best efforts and various products it's smears, the gradual build up of lime scale round the hinge, and even the slow discolouring of the rubber slip on seal thing on the bottom of the glass to a delightful grungy yellow was constantly disappointing.

This house - soft white shower curtain. I buy a new one every 6 months or so (£8 ish) and i bung it in the wash every week with the bath mats. A slug of fabric softener in the wash means it smells nice when you walk into the bathroom. It's a bit retro but it's so much nicer !

dudsville · 23/06/2025 07:53

We put a shower cubicle in to replace the old one that had no water stains and was so easy to clean. I don't know what the old one was made of, but I regret the new cubicle so much. Those of you with shower curtains with a cubicle, how have you done this please? I've only heard of shower curtains when the shower is over a bath.

Mosaic123 · 06/08/2025 15:47

After showering, before getting out, turn the shower to extra hot and spray down all the walls with the handheld.thing.

Step out and dry yourself.

Dry glass with micro fibre cloth which is hung on a hook just outside the shower cubicle. Stand inside the shower to do this.

Finally, using a cheap absorbent mop (the kind that has a head which looks like it has wool 'fingers') go over that glass with the mop from top to bottom.
This dries it completely.

We live in a hard water area too

Before this technique I bought many ineffective products.

I don't use fabric conditioner but wash the mop heads and microfiber cloths every now and then.

They only get plain water on them

Just reviving this as I’m trying to avoid the same issues with a newly installed shower!

Would you say the trick is to dry it completely after each use?

Timeforabitofpeace · 17/08/2025 12:55

My cousin insists that the trick is to spray the shower walls and tiles with water first, as soap type products are less likely to stick to it. Then quickly rinse it again with the hose before getting out. I do squeegee but only because ventilation isn’t as good in my bathroom as it should be.
