Broken freezer, spoiled food

My MIL bought a new freezer in December. It has subsequently broken down 3 times due to a fault. Had the engineer round each time, so all documented.
Have asked the supplier for some form of compensation for her due to contents having to be thrown as spoiled. They have said they will only offer a small compensation for one lot of food, despite the freezer breaking 3 times, and having to throw 3 lots of food.
From the last engineer visit, we have found out that this is a known problem with her make of freezer!
Are they correct in what they are saying, or should we push for compensation of 3 lots of food?
Thanks

I'm surprised she accepted any repairs instead of pushing for a new replacement as I assume it broke down within 3 months of buying as it was not fit for purpose. She could probably still try for that if it breaks down again. For the compensation bit I would suggest she contacts Citizens Advice as they might have a template letter she could use as these seem to get better results.

Good luck.
