Help! What will take hair dye off of floor?

DD dyed her hair while we were away last weekend and didn’t tell us that some has spilled on a new bathroom en-suite.

Any ideas as how best to remove stains? Tried hair spray, nail polish remover, WD40, magic sponge…all to no avail.

Are they floor tiles? I would try dabbing some bleach on the marks to try and lighten the stain.

alibali23 · 30/05/2025 12:25

Yeah, tried that too!

did the nail polish remover have acetone in it? If not try some that does

alibali23 · 30/05/2025 13:17

Yes, it had acetone in it.

Cellulose thinners? Test on a small area to make sure it doesn’t damage your tiles maybe?

Will give it a go.

What kind of surface is it? If it is sealed tiles, you can try abrasive cleaners like cif or the pink stuff.
If it is stone / unsealed tiles, you will need to be careful what you use - if they are porous, the stain won’t lift so easily and you could damage the floor.

I would speak to the floor fitter / supplier to see what they recommend.

Thanks. It’s not roles - it’s like drywall which has been used. It’s like a laminate.

Try hair dye removal wipes? I have some from scrummi from my hairdresser and some by framar (kolor killer) from Amazon. Scrummi ones slightly better but both work absolute wonders on skin stains of the pink, blue and purple I use on my hair so might also work for the floor?

I use bleach on the tiles, bath, sink and loo seat but would do so sparingly on the floor because mine is lino 🤣

Pic of both if tech is cooperating:

White vinegar mixed with baking soda into a paste , use a non scratch scourer. Scrub like mad....Also try hairspray....
