He has managed to get this stain on the front pocket of his new hoodie. It looks like grease, so yesterday I mixed bicarbonate and baking soda with water, rubbed it in, squirted on a bit of washing up liquid and rubbed that in, then a squirt of vanish stain remover then a 40° wash with biological washing powder. It’s no better 😩
What can we try next?!

Try ACE

Is that a pre wash spray or a washing powder?

I haven’t tried elbow grease yet. That’s worked in the past for grease stains 🤔

Can you sew a patch or badge over the stain?

TatteredAndTorn · 29/05/2025 18:27

I’m surprised washing up liquid didn’t work. I would try just the neat up liquid again, maybe it got diluted by all the other stuff you were adding. Rub it in neat and leave it for at least a few hours or overnight then wash.

I was going to suggest this. I’ve used it before and it’s worked.

Pre-wash spray

Chalk. Grate it or smush it in. The greasiness of it will be soaked up and then a normal wash

RandomMess · 29/05/2025 19:25

Dr Beckmann oil remover

changedusername190 · 29/05/2025 19:52

I use dry shampoo left on both sides over night. Its also. great with oil stains on drives, paving slabs etc

GreenCandleWax · 29/05/2025 19:56

Have you tried Vanish and wash at 40 degrees as its grease?

Haveapotato · 29/05/2025 20:15

If its grease - fairy liquid with a bit of hot water directly on the stain, give it a rub to let it get to work, then wash as usual. I'm forever getting olive oil or salad dressing on myself amd this is what I do.

Cosmosforbreakfast · 29/05/2025 20:18

Wash the stain with washing up liquid and warm water. Then sprinkle bicarb on it, sprinkle vinegar over that, leave it a few minutes then put it in the wash.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I’ll give them all a go! I can’t think what else it can be if it’s not grease. Certainly looks like oil to me. Wish me luck 🍀

Somebody posted about an oily stain the other day and came back to say that Swarfega had got rid of it.
