Cooking fish pie

Hi all, I have some frozen fish fillets, would I be ok to cook these, and make the sauce & mashed potato for a fish pie, put it all together and then freeze it? All the recipes say to use fresh raw fish, and then freeze with the fish raw inside the pie and to cook when you want it

Thank you

Yes you can do it this way. It's fine from a food hygiene angle. It just risks overcooking the fish, because fish cooks quite quickly in the oven whereas the mashed potato takes ages to heat through. By the time you have the potato reheated properly, previously cooked fish might be getting a bit rubbery.

I didn't know that it should be frozen raw? I freeze mine cooked as I use the milk that you poach the fish in for the sauce to give it flavour. I haven't noticed any problems with the texture of the fish.
