What on earth am I doing wrong??

I'm a bit of a dishwasher novice but have been using one since DD was born 7 months ago, however every time I use it (doesn't matter what cycle it is on) it leaves a salty film on all the dishes and glasses. It drives me mad, what am I doing wrong?

Do you have salt and rinse aid in the dishwasher; do they need topping up? Are you stacking it so that the movement of the blade is not hampered by the dishes in it?

Also check the rotating sprinklers. Make sure the holes are clear. Rice also gets stuck in mine.

can you adjust something for water hardness? ours has a little thing where move an arrow and it then knows how much salt to use.
Also rinse aid.
(don't think it'll be sprinklers, problems there tend to leave huge food stains!)

thank you all! DP topped up the salt about a week ago but i don't think we have rinse aid (don't really know what it is!). I'm about to put DD to bed and then i'll go investigate.
