Washing Liquid Question - Stains on White Clothes

BeerAndMusic · 28/04/2025 12:19

I feel that my white t shirts are discolouring quicker now under the arms - you know that horrible yellow/grey stain caused by sweat and anti perspirant. I swear that 2 years ago it was not as bad, when I used Persil colour now I use the Tesco branded colour as its 1/3 the price. My machine auto dispenses from tray so I cant have white AND colour liquid.

Is there really that much difference between the two? Any recommendations?

Can you add some Napisan to the wash?

BatshitCrazyWoman · 28/04/2025 12:25

I wash whites separately, altogether (have a fair bit of white if I include bed linen and towels, as well as clothes) and use Daz powder with a scoop of Tesco Oxypower for whites. I've not had an issue with any whites becoming discoloured.

Stupid question as the instructions online are not clear, do you just add the scoop to the clothes in the drum and sprinkle in?

biological powder is best for whites

StarTwirl · 28/04/2025 12:36

And add some bicarbonate of soda a teaspoon or so

BashfulClam · 28/04/2025 12:39

I always put my powder into the drum, it seems to wash whites better. Try a capful of zoflora in the fabric softener bit of the drawer. It seems to take that staining out.

StarTwirl · 28/04/2025 12:40

Why on earth are you using a colour washing liquid for whites ?!

StarTwirl · 28/04/2025 12:41

Oh sorry auto dispensing tray

just chuck the powder into the drum separately for whites

banivani · 28/04/2025 12:44

Liquid detergent is much less effective than powder. Switch!

You can put it in the drawer, with the washing powder, or in the drum, then put the clothes in.

You can put the whites powder into any small plastic thing if you don’t have a dosing ball.. Top of fabric conditioner bottles size
I I wouldn’t sprinkle it straight in personally
Add an “ Oxi stain remover powder” or soak in something like Napisan first

dementedpixie · 28/04/2025 17:35

Colour detergent and liquid detergent don't contain bleaches so won't keep your whites as white. I'd pre-treat the armpits with a stain remover and add a whitener to the drum or to the dispenser drawer to help brighten them up.
