Face cloths smell

Hi, when I wash my face cloths they dry and smell fine but when I wet them to wash my face they smell like.... Poop 😥 (no reason why, they're used for faces)

Any ways to deep clean them?

What temperature are you washing them at? Have you tried a very hot wash with some white vinegar and then drying outside in the sun? It sounds more as though you're putting them away slightly damp, which could cause that smell.

How do you wash them just now?

Panfish · 16/04/2025 09:23

Could someone be wiping their arse with it unbeknownst to you?

Lol maybe but I think it's more the washing routine

Or when did you last clean your washing machine?

Currently throw all my stuff in together, 2 hour cycle (it's called "mixed") 40 degrees. One pod of fairy

Hmmm.... Good question...... That could also be the issue.

do they sit around wet before they are washed?

Belt and braces would be a hot soak in detergent, then as hot a wash as you want to risk, and hang them in the sun to dry very well. You've prob got some lurking bacteria. If you have any laundry sanitiser bung that in (dettol do one, or napisan etc) but probably not essential. My coloured 100% cotton flannels survive boil washes quite happily but I can't guarantee the safety of yours - 60 would be better than 40 if you don't want to risk it

Yes! That's it, they're sitting around wet!
Thank you - laundry detective!!
I'll follow your advice, they're not super expensive, and they're fairly hardy so I'll give them a good hot wash etc

Thank you!!
