What is a good rate per hour for a cleaner?

I was thinking £8-£9. Everybody in Herts wants £12 plus VAT. Is this a rip off?

I pay my baby sitter £10 per hour because she's trained in childcare.

Do you think the cleaner should get more?

Anyone recommend a cleaning service?

wow, I pay £8 in London

bristols · 16/05/2008 11:28

I pay £8 in Essex. Plus a quarterly fee to the agency.

Simply · 16/05/2008 11:48

A total cost of £10 an hour is the norm around here in mid Wales.

moocowme · 16/05/2008 21:21

I got two for $17 an hour in Herts although I think the price for one might have been £12.

moocowme · 16/05/2008 21:22

at those prices i thought it was better to motivate myself to clean with the reward of a new article of clothing with the money i saved each week when the job was complete.

suzi2 · 16/05/2008 21:24

I pay a relative £7.50 an hour ish - I'm in a small town in Scotland. I say 'ish' because I generally cover her expenses to travel to me a bit too.

ButterflyBessie · 16/05/2008 21:24

Blimey, you pay your babysitter £10ph!!

We would never be able to go out at that price, we pay £5ph and think that is extortionate

brimfull · 16/05/2008 21:26

fuck me

£10/hr for a babysitter!

I thought cleaner at £7/hr was bad

but tbh I wouldn't clean someone else's shit for less

alibubbles · 17/05/2008 14:56

I'm in Herts, AL1 and I pay £8 an hour to the cleaner and £2.15 an hour to the agency.

They recruit for you, and you have the same one all the time. I am pleased with mine.

www.bellecasa.co.uk/domestic/services.asp you can put your postcode in and it will tell you the rate.

I pay mine £9 but I'm sacking her soon as she's rubbish and I feel I'm wasting my money.

WinkyWinkola · 19/05/2008 09:15

Alibubbles, I just did that post code search and the hourly rate comes out at £10.45. I'm in HP2. Is it a rip off?

I pay £8 but she charges me the same for babysitting which bugs me a bit as she watches telly all night - they have never woken up. I know she's in charge of my precious darlings but my usual babysitter only charges £6.

Also, she's not the best cleaner but it's a small village so if I sack her then get someone else she'll know!! (And I do like her very much) Arrgh!! The stress

WilfSell · 19/05/2008 09:20

I pay 7 quid but we're up North/Midlands

alibubbles · 19/05/2008 09:56

WW, perhaps it is £10.45, I pay the agency quarterly by DD. My cleaner comes to me from Hemel, I could ask her if she is interested in 'doing' you. She charges £10 an hour ex agency, so my friend decided to go through the agency as then you have insurance and a replacement cleaner if need be.

swedishmum · 19/05/2008 10:06

I pay mine £7ph but she stops for a while for lunch with me.

bogie · 19/05/2008 10:08

Here in Nottingham you can get them for as little as £6.50.
Have you looked on your local gumtree.com site loads of work wanted ads on there.

chloemegjess · 19/05/2008 14:56

I would only pay 6-7per hour really. and as a babysitter (also qualified like yours) I would never ask for £10 an hour!!! I charge £6 and thats in the daytime, for 2-3 kids! And I am in middx/bucks

Sunshinemummy · 19/05/2008 14:57

I pay £7 per hour in SW London - and she's fab!

PosieParker · 19/05/2008 14:59

Unskilled work, £12, they apy much less at Tesco's for a harder bit of work!! £7.50 for mine and she works like a demon. One girl asked for £9 and I said no. I pay the lady that does my ironing and is also a registered child minder, £10.50 to babysit and do my ironing at the same time, when the children are in bed!!

GrinningSoul · 29/05/2008 10:35

SunshineMummy - does your fab one have any spare time, do you know? ours is not great (though she means well!) and has just asked to go up to £9.

Sunshinemummy · 29/05/2008 10:47

Where do you live Grinningsoul?

Pinkjenny · 29/05/2008 10:50

I pay £7 in the North West.

GrinningSoul · 29/05/2008 12:40

putney/roehampton border

talilac · 29/05/2008 12:42

£6.50 an hour plus £100 a year to the agency, in London.
