American style washing machine

Having used a top loader machine while on holiday in the US and experienced the speed, efficiency and results, I’m looking into getting one myself.

Does anyone have any experience / knowledge?

I am wondering if it was just better because it was large?
or a top loader?
or is US technology better?

Where I live, top loaders are more popular than automatic front loaders. (and also twin tubs believe it or not).

First, we probably have more space for them (although I don't personally, as my normal front loader is fitted in)

They are much faster

They only take in cold water so cheaper to run. Most people here just wash in cold water.

You can add things in and play around with the cycle length very easily.

They take way bigger loads

Speed Queen go on for years and years, they are the best (its what laundromats use) but they are expensive. But we get them from all the usual brands, LG, Samsung etc.

I think it boils down to a space issue.

I’m starting to think that perhaps the only reason the clothes came out ‘nicer’, ie not creased, it’s because it was a very big machine and I only had a relatively small load. I’m going to try my own front loader washing machine and do slightly smaller loads and see if that makes a difference. I don’t think I overload the machine at all based on the instruction manual, but maybe I’m kidding myself.

Love a top loader. When I go to the US laundry is so quick!

One of the main reasons American machines are so much is quicker is because they have a hot and cold fill and the UK machines are all cold fill and heat in the machine
