DP travelling for work and found a bedbug

Just this evening. He did the whole thing of checking the room as soon as he went in (we had discussed this) and literally found a bug immediately on the sheets. They’re giving him another room — but I’m now worried the hotel is infested generally 😣 Have panic-ordered some diatomaceous earth.

What do we need to do to protect the house when he comes home in a couple of days? We absolutely cannot handle the expense or hassle of treating an infestation here at the moment.

I’m leaning toward the whole extreme thing of getting him to strip off in the garden, throwing away his suitcase (it is old and small) and so on. Any other tips?

Unf. we do not own a tumble dryer or a proper big freezer.

He'll have to sleep in the shed for a week and have an hourly bleach bath.

Seriously though, not fun, I'd be wary of his suitcase, I assume once he found it, he's been keeping his clothes in there, closed, not hanging in their skanky wardrobe?

He checked the room, found the bug and got the hotel to agree on a new room before even unpacking, thank goodness.

But they needed time to organise a room for him, so he was at a loose end and ended up going out for some food while they do that, despite it being so late. Leaving his case in the infested hotel’s luggage storage area.

Hopefully the next room he gets will be okay but I’m not inclined to relax about it; I feel like if bedbugs are in a hotel, they are probably all over it. There could be eggs in the new room even if he doesn’t see more actual bugs, right?

When he comes home, don't let him put his case on the bed or carpet. Put it in the bathtub to unpack and wash everything

Hmm tough I’d be inclined to bin what he can before he even travels back (toiletries, pants/socks) and then yes bin or bag up anything else before in comes in the house. Binning stuff is cheaper than treating a house. If he has suits or clothes he wants to keep I’d bag them up and take to a dry cleaner rather than wash in the house. And yes bin suitcase but bag it and bin it as well.
Sorry we both travel a lot with work and this is one of nightmares 🪳
