New kettle makes water taste disgusting - will this change?

I have ordered a new kettle from Argos, which arrived today. The instructions said to boil water in it and discard 3 times. I have now done that 5 times and the water still tastes disgusting.

The inside of the lid is plastic - I wonder whether this is what's causing the bad taste.

I'm wondering - will the bad taste soon go away, or do I need to return this kettle and order a different one?! It would be good to hear other people's experiences!

I'd probably do it a couple more times and see if it seems to be getting lighter. If so keep discarding until the taste is gone. If it doesn't seem to be going away, take it back.

I've had kettles with plastic lids and metal lids and never noticed a difference.

yes, it will get better.

btw are there any plastic parts inside? I once bought a cheap plastic one (emergency) and that had a plastic sleeve on the heating element.
weird taste/smell went away after I removed those.

Thank you for the replies! Apart from the inside of the lid, there are no plastic parts inside.

I've now boiled and discarded water in the kettle multiple times, and the water still tastes horrible!
