How to get bleach to stick to tile grouting?

Or a product that will, for long enough for it to ‘work’.

Thanks!

I've done it with toilet paper. Soak tp in bleach and then stick it to the wall over the grouting.

PanickyBill · 06/04/2025 09:42

I brush it in with an old toothbrush it works really well.

Hoogieflip · 06/04/2025 09:42

Make it into a paste with flour.

I use dettol mould and mildew spray - great stuff!

marshmallowfinder · 06/04/2025 09:57

Bleach with bicarb of soda to make a paste. But bleaching grouting over time doesn't do it any favours. It goes very dried out and brittle.

WonderingWanda · 06/04/2025 09:59

HG grout spray is pretty good.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/04/2025 10:00

Make a thick paste of bicarb and lemon juice, spread it on and leave for 30 minutes. Then either just rinse off or scrub first depending how grubby the grout was.

Fordian · 06/04/2025 10:15

Thanks! It’d be fair to say the grouting is already rather knackered, but I just want to get the ‘orange’ stuff looking a bit better before getting in there and retiling it all!

Toothbrush, you dont need to faff about making up pastes.

TheOccupier · 06/04/2025 10:16

Try Mould Magic gel. Sticks to the grouting so well you actually have to wash it off once it's done its thing!

Soontobe60 · 06/04/2025 10:16

Bleach, used over time, will destroy the grouting. You’re better off over long term actually regrouting the tiles with a dark colour, then making sure you clean them very regularly.

Yes this is what I do! Works really well on sealant and grouting. I call them bleach worms. I soak kitchen roll in bleach and tear and roll into worms and then squish them against the grouting. Any stains are gone in around 3 hours. I have even managed to lift a mould stain around bathroom ceiling with a soaked piece of kitchen roll!

Just coming on to say this - it's great stuff

LittleGreenDragons · 06/04/2025 11:15

I use a toothbrush to "scrub" it into the grout rather than wiping it and then leave it on for approx an hour before rinsing it off/repeating. If the sealant is mouldy then I use toilet tissue or kitchen towel ripped into lengths to keep it in place, usually overnight.

ohnowwhatcanitbe · 06/04/2025 11:26

Buy bleach that has 'extra thick' or wording like that on the label, then work it in with a toothbrush. Leave a few minutes, then rinse off.

StickyProblem · 06/04/2025 11:28

Another vote for HG grout spray, it’s fab!

Thecerealkiller · 06/04/2025 11:58

Spray it onto cotton wool pads and press them on
the flat round or square ones, not roll or balls

How difficult is it to regrout tiles? Do you happen to know? That would be my ideal solution!

I used thick toilet bleach which works well enough. It drips down and puddles so I use the bottle to suck it up and apply to new areas. Never had an issues doing this. Leave it ten minutes, use a brush to brush all tiled area and then rise off ten minutes later

This. Or the Cilit Bang version.

Just spray and leave overnight.

Best to do it when you can open a window. Wear old clothes and something over your eyes if spraying a lot.

Works well on sealant too.

Thanks everyone.
