What is this smell?

There is a strange smell in our kitchen - just appeared overnight seemingly. Smells a bit sweet and bit like daffodils but there are no flowers around.

It seems strongest in one place literally at head height so in the middle of the air! It's like a cloud of smell! Have sniffed literally every nook and cranny in the kitchen but can't find the source. Husband and daughter can also smell it so it's not my imagination.Any thoughts?

There was a similar thread years ago, it turned out to be a minuscule puncture in a tin can.

That is so random! Planning a deep clean tomorrow so will root out any dodgy cans!

Is it your filter in the hob extractor fan? They can smell strange from cooking smells .

Mouse? Decaying mice give off a weird sweet smell.

That’s a really good shout, I’ll remember this one

Vape? Anyone who might have vaped in your kitchen in the middle of the night? Vape smells tend to be very sweet.
Bit like Body Shop fruit shower gel used to be!

Sometimes an electric plug or socket or extension lead can give off a smell. In the past I have also sometimes found them hot as well, and have always replaced them.

Oh this is interesting. A fishy smell has been linked to a fail in the electrics somewhere too.
