Hi,

I have a bit of a problem, for a past 2 weeks I keep getting bitten- I’ll attached pictures of the bites. My son who sleeps with me or my partner are not- it’s only me. I got paranoia that we have bed bugs- but we stripped the bed out and looked closely on every inch of the mattress- nothing there. No black spots on the mattress or blood spots on sheets as well.

so I’m thinking flea? But we don’t have any pets 🥲 please help, what this bites looks like to you, they are very itchy

Have you been doing anything in a garden? I get bitten whenever I do any gardening.

Dogaredabomb · 22/03/2025 00:38

Have you walked through long grass?

@Antonania we moved in 8 months ago, have no pets, however 2 weeks ago our new neighbours (downstairs) moved in- they have a cat. Bites are only on my legs, only 2 on my side 😭

I was told fleas can lie dormant for years so I would say fleas. Happened to us - we moved into a new house and had the carpets torn up and it woke them up apparently . Called pest control and was like a fiend with vacuuming . They never came back.

Well spotted. I think you're going to have to raise it with the neighbours. Warn them you now have mystery fleas and they need to treat their cat to protect it perhaps, if they might take offence!

It does seem a bit weird if you have caught them from downstairs. I would treat the shared hallway as well as your own flat but if they are coming from downstairs cat, it's pointless unless the cat is treated too.

Is there any other way they could have come in? Have you bought any second hand furniture?

@Antonania no i haven’t :/ i have no idea. The only thing i can think of is my son bringing them in as he loves to play in the garden and this cat runs around there

Foxes, squirrels, hedgehogs, cats all carry fleas so easily picked up outside.

Do you sleep alone? If with someone else do they also get bitten? If they don't get bitten it won't be bed bugs.

A few years ago I was getting bitten along my sock line as a bug had found its way in to my sock drawer. Stopped after washing everything on a hot wash.

Afraid I'd disagree- I shared a bed in a rental flat with ex. I had close to 200 bites before we found out it was infested with bed bugs. He had none. I was clearly the tastier option. He only got bitten once I had moved out (and burned all my possessions...)

I would've said fleas before you confirmed it, due to the bites on your lower legs. Whilst cat fleas can't live on humans, they will bite if an animal isn't around.

If it is your neighbour's cats, they are so selfish allowing their pets to be continuously bitten by fleas, and if it is the case, I hope they themselves eventually get bitten like crazy.
