Cilit Bang for floors- DO NOT USE!!

I used this last week for the first time. Diluted it as per the back in a sink of water to wash my kitchen floor.

Within 5 minutes my husband (who was in the lounge a good 15 feet away) complained of a tight chest and bad watering eyes. The fumes were really toxic smelling!

I have a DD 6 mo who was gasping for breath and really panting!

Just thought I'd better warn you ladies please don't use this around your kids- preferably not at all. It's lethal stuff. I've emailed Cilit Bang and they have just contacted me to say a letter is in the post.

Is it possible there were remenants of a previous cleaner - even dried and crystalised - in the bottom of the bucket?

Many products should not be used with others due to chemical reaction and consequently noxious fumes.

My dh uses nasty strong chemicals when on the twice yearly occasions when he cleans the bathroom. It amazes me how strong things are. Really fierce.

Another good reason not to buy the ludicrously named Cillit Bang.

It was used in a clean sink so couldn't have mixed with anything else.

i used to use the kitchen and bathroom ones but i used the one for drains and stains and nearly passed out in the bathroom from the fumes and could only smell and taste chlorine for a week.in fairness the bathroom had no window but the whole house reaked and we had to open all the windows for the night in the middle of winter

i hate cillit bang it stinks i bought it oonce and never again i cannot stand the smell although it didnt make chest feel tight and i am asthmatic so maybe you used too much?

dp uses the degreaser for motorbike stuff . I use the loo bleach one. But nothing else as it is damned severe.
bleach also gives ms headache

Only used one capful in a large bowl of water- less than was recommended. It didn' say anything on the back about ventilating the room before use/possible fumes etc. Will be interesting to see what they say. Really think this product should be recalled. Would be nice to hear if anyone else has had the same trouble.

sounds nasty. Have never used it, don't think I'll start any time soon.

micci25 · 09/05/2008 22:25

it was the multi purpose spray i used so maybe the floor stuff is stronger!!

my dd1 is obssesed with te advert 'bang and the dirt is gone' and begs me to buy it every time we go shopping she appears to think that one spray will tidy the whole house! but that is the one thing that i wont give into
