Smell of mothballs

I've inherited a jumper from a friend. It was stored at her Granny's and reeks of mothballs. I've tried washing it multiple times with normal washing liquid but it still stinks. Any ideas on how to get rid? Thanks.

Air it outdoors on a dry day, turn it inside out for half of that time. Hand wash it with a small amount of shampoo allowing it to soak for an hour. Rinse with a small amount of hair conditioner, again allowing it to soak for an hour. If that doesn't work, I'd be tempted to bin it.

Will give it a try. Thank you. Don't want to bin. When I say inherited - it's because she passed away! No value other than sentimental and very special memories.

@bluesatin Me too. They remind me of my Grandad 😍. He always used to keep them in inside his drawers and wardrobe

I saw something on TikTok where you cover the garment in porridge oats that have been warmed (dry!). I haven't tried this personally so can't vouch for it.
