Please help-how to clean this-is this limescale or damage?

Hi,

I noticed this on my bath taps, thought it was limescale, tried to clean with cif cream and then white vinegar but doesnt seem to have helped. Not sure if the metal has stripped?
What would you advise?

Limescale remover made my washbasin taps look like that. I think it damaged the surface, and they never did come right afterwards.

Yehh that was my worry too 🙈 think l left the cif cream on and it damaged the metal?
