Where do I find a housekeeper

Hi everyone,

I’m starting a big job in May and am hoping to find a part time housekeeper before then and am unsure where to start the search. We’ve gotten by with an average cleaner for the last few months and have kept her on purely for trust but she’s cancelled more than half of her visits on the day and doesn’t offer to come another day so I know reliability wise she isn’t going to be an option (she also offered to do a wash so I let her to see how it went and she washed everything together (colours and whites, wools, bedding etc) and laundry is something we’re going to need help with. I really like her as a person and would love her to be our person but she doesn’t need the money (says she does it as something to do whilst her child is at nursery) and reliability wise it’s not very great.

Before her we tried Next Door and Gumtree and it’s not been great. Lots of no shows, had someone who used flash wipes for the whole house and someone who wouldn’t come in because they were scared of our cockapoo despite knowing we had a dog.

We are a married couple with a dog and no kids and need help with domestic cleaning, organising a cleaning schedule and knowing when something will need a deep clean, laundry (wash, dry, fold/put away), taking bins out, cleaning out the fridge and generally helping organise the house. Don’t need cooking, putting food shop away / food shop ordering, childcare help. Was hoping for 2 days for 4-5 hours per day or 3 days for 4 hours. I’m aware we’ll be an employer and will pay NI / tax etc.

I’ve emailed Signature Staff and was about to email Grayson Lumley but any other suggestions would be fab. Would prefer someone local as I’d want the person to ideally not have a huge commute but know agencies tend to recruit all over London and past experience with a great cleaner at our old house didn’t last long as the hour commute wasn’t sustainable for her and she got a job closer to home.

We are in Putney if anyone has a recommendation. Thanks in advance!

It's hell trying to find good people with initiative and wherewithal.
You shouldn't have to hire them as an employer with those hours - that's self-employed level. Do the hours merit an agency? Not sure they'd be interested but worth trying.

I came across your post and would love to offer my help. I have 18 years of experience in housekeeping and domestic cleaning. I’m originally from Poland and have been working in London for a long time. I can provide references from employers.

I’m experienced in cleaning, laundry (sorting, washing, drying, folding, and putting away), organising the home, and managing cleaning schedules, including deep cleans when necessary.

I live in Hounslow, so commuting wouldn’t be an issue. If you’d like to discuss further, please let me know—I’d be happy to meet.

Best regards,
Monika

Staff of Distinction are a good agency and I've had housekeepers from them before.

You might strike lucky here?

The Lady magazine has ads for domestic staff.
