Carpet cleaners that actually work? Recommendations please!

Hi lovelies
My light coloured carpet is looking grotty and I'd like to invest in a carpet cleaner instead of getting a company in to do it.
Am I naive to think that I could buy something that would do a reasonably good job?
If you've got any recommendations please let me know.

I’ve got a vax platinum smartwash vacuum cleaner it’s brilliant my carpets dry within a hour or so. I also have a vax spot wash which is handy for spillages.

Do note that most home use carpet cleaners are not recommended for wool carpets

Nothing damaging has ever happened to my wool carpets or rugs. They put it on products to cover themselves pretty sure some would try to make claims just to get new carpets.
