My washing machine has died!

Washing machines have a hard life in my house. We do at least one load a day and there is a lot of mud. In the last 8 years I've had a maytag and a hoover, in both the drums have come loose. I need recommendations for a hard wearing, large capacity machines!

Samsung all the way!

Thank you, which model do you have?

I had a Bosch that lasted me 13 years. Babies, mountain biking, swimming, full on. It died and I had a Hotpoint that lasted 3 years. I replace it with another Bosch.

I find Samsung products to be a bit jack of all trades master of none, nothing I've had from them has lasted. I'm happy with my 10 year old Siemens machine (same group as Bosch). Hope it's not going to pack in now!

Fraaances · 17/01/2025 11:03

Bosch x2

My Samsung died after 5y1m - so just as warranty ended!

Huckyfell · 17/01/2025 11:09

Had Miele for the past 15 years, couple of repairs but it is on a minimum once a day. After loads of research and digging we have gone for LG, only a few months old but a massive 13kg load capacity. It is quiet, 5 year warranty, and despite my initial doubts it has ticked every box.
Siemens and Bosch always good, but check out LG

Thank you all, the shopping has begun.

Mine died a fortnight after the warranty ended 😂

Avoid Beko. They are awful and the warranty isn't worth the paper it is written on!

Fraaances · 26/01/2025 02:58

Don’t touch Ariston with a barge pole. Everything breaks, parts are hard to come by and customer service sucks balls.

Jk987 · 26/01/2025 04:47

A tip I learnt was don't wash all the towels together. Once they are saturated in water, it's just too heavy and puts a massive strain on the machine.

Put one or two towels in with other items.

PrincessOfPreschool · 26/01/2025 05:59

I have a 10kg machine and do 4 towels at a time but usually 2 towels, duvet cover and sheet.

I hate my washing machine. It leaks, it doesn't wash well, the controls are awful (can't select spin speed). I've been waiting for it to die for ages but it's a stubborn old thing. It's electra and it was the cheapest machine. It's lasted longer than my hotpoints but I did much prefer the hotpoint control.

Exhaustedtiredneedabreak · 26/01/2025 13:45

Thanks all I took the advice and went with a bosch. Hopefully it will last!

Either go very expensive w hich will last a long time or very cheap which won't last but was at least cheap.

I go for very expensive (Miele) which I am very happy with.

A large portion of the expense for me is the delivery, installation, and disposing of the old one. It's at least £100 for that now.

RosesAndHellebores · 26/01/2025 13:48

You are likely to find the machine lasts longer if you rinse out the mud first. Bosch here. 9 years so far with heavy use.

LemonVerbeena · 26/01/2025 14:02

I had a Bosch, I hated it. I never experienced it with any other washing machine but it didn't seem to wash clothes properly, stains didn't really come out and everything was a bit grubby. It failed within 2 years (some bearings around the drum sheared) and was replaced under warranty. It failed again about 2 years later, same fault. I'm not sure if it was that particular model. I didn't find their customer service particularly great and I replaced it with a basic Miele which is a fantastic machine. It's a total workhorse, clothes are actually clean again, it's quiet and ultra reliable. My experience of Bosch might be unusual but I wouldn't buy another one. I highly recommend Miele though.

Mine just died yesterday. Lasted 12 years, put a wash on most days. New Indesit coming Thursday it's the closest model I could find to the existing one.

Great tip about the towels- there were 2 big towels in there yesterday when the machine started its death throes.
