Killing fungal spores in laundry?

lds0507 · 05/01/2025 14:58

I have a fungal nail infection and I know fungal spores are killed by washing at 60c, but a friend recommended adding 100ml of white vinegar to the softener compartment or buying the dettol disinfectant additive when it's not possible to wash at 60c (coloured socks and clothes for example).

Any opinion on which of these would be better? Seems to be mixed opinion whether the dettol laundry disinfectant would actually kill fungal spores but it seems white vinegar does kill some types of fungal spores?!

Antidandruff shampoo is effective at killing fungal spores (and you can use the shampoo as a shower cream too, all over your body. Why not pre-soak your wash in a bucket of shampoo solution?

Halo sports wash is antifungal. It's not cheap, but it does work.

Oh that's brilliant!

I've been putting many of my eBay acquisitions through Halo, just because I can and prevention is better than cure.

But I don't use Halo with anything woollen. The occasion doesn't often arise – but antidandruff shampoo is genius!

I'm assuming it's a good call for all the funguses – athlete's foot, thrush, ringworm...
