Recycling cat food tins

Hiya happy new year everyone. I’m currently house sitting and looking after a cat. I live in a flat normally and don’t have a recycling system.

my question is when putting the small cat food tins in the bin do I have to pull the lid all the way off? I have a disability and whenever I try to detach the can lid I worry that I’ll cut myself. I rinse the tins out but the lids are left hanging on

I don’t want the owners to come back and be mad at me for ruining their recycling system

All councils have different rules but s long as the lid is metal I wouldn't take it off for the sake of it. Who is going to know anyway?

I don’t. It’s the same metal

I just clean out, using a long dish brush rather than sponge so you don’t cut yourself if it doesn’t just rinse out.

Councils all seem to have their own rules but in our area this has never been specified and I have never thought to remove them entirely.

If you want certainty I can only suggest googling the local council's recycling rules, or ask your friend.
