We've currently got a Dyson but it just pushes the dirt/crumbs around the wooden floor

What kind of dyson do you have? I have had the Absolute v8 for many years and it sucks everything up (but I only use it on its turbo setting). In time the battery life lasts less and less (esp if using the turbo suction all the time) but I just bought a new battery as a replacement. Also to say that I use the rotating brush, not the velvety one intended for solid floors.

it is the best cordless hoover I have tried

I have a V7 absolute which is fine but I'm wondering if therecould be a blockage?
Disassemble everything including the brush head. Sometimes things get caught. They're easily blocked

I have realised an inconvenient truth - the corded versions are much better than the cordless 😩

We had a Dyson v6 which did the same as yours on hard floors, so I went for a Shark Stratos and it’s…ok. But seems to need quite a lot of maintenance in terms of various bits and bobs needing cleaning / emptying / replacing. Just used my MiL’s corded Shark on a hard floor and it was a LOT better.

Absolute best one is still my corded Miele, but too much of a faff to pull out for quick whizzes, and my Eufy.

I have a corded shark anti-hair wrap and find it very good on wooden floors and lino. It's quite stiff to push along on rugs but great otherwise.
